My Rite Aid Trip

Here are 2 of my transactions. See this post for the third transaction.

Buy (8) Pantene BOGO 4.99

=19.96

-$5/$20 RA video value coupon

-$12.00 use 4-$3.00/2 Pantene Product Coupon in 03/07 PG

=$2.96 + tax

2 Glucosamine $18.99 BOGO
1 Gold Fish Crakcer $.50
=$19.49
-$5/$20 RA video value coupon
=$14.49

Which sounds like a lot but I bought one bottle that had 106 tablets at Target last week for $16.50 these bottles had 166 each. Now you have to be careful on vitamins and supplements because even though a bottle has more tablets and is cheaper doesn't mean it's a better deal. You need to check to see how many tablets are a serving and what percentage of the key ingredients each serving has. These bottles turned out to be better because the serving size was the same and had more of the key ingredient in each serving. Which by the way if you are a runner I highly recommend these. I started taking these last week because I was having knee pain and I feel so much better!

It Pays to Wait

I'm not a very patient person by nature, but I've become more patient over time, because I know it pays to wait. I used to just go out and buy something if I needed it. I tried to get the best deal, but I wasn't willing to wait weeks or even months for it. Now I'm much smarter and know that there is almost nothing you can't get for a better deal if you wait.
For example I have this house plant that has been sitting in an ugly plastic container for a year. I've been wanting to get a pot to put it in, but really didn't want to pay $20 for one. So I've been looking for a deal. Well this week I got my deal. Planting pots at Rite-Aid this week are 50% off. Sweet! But to make the deal even better I added some cheap things to my total so I could use my $5/$20 coupon.
Here's how it went.
Pack of 3 pots regularly $25.00, 50% off so they are now $12.50. Now for 3 nice pots that's fantastic! But I like to do a little better than fantastic. So I added 3 soft scrub to my total which would be $.50 after coupons and a vitamin water which would be free after coupon. Here's the break down:
3 pots $12.50
3 soft scrub $7.00
1 vitamin water $1.25
-$5/$20 RA video value coupon
-$6 use 3- $2/1 soft scrub total coupons
-$1.25 use free vitamin water (facebook coupon)
= $8.50 for 3 nice pots plus more!
By the way I saw one cheapo looking medium pot at Wal-Mart for $10.
So with a little creativity and patience you can get almost anything at a great price!

Pillsbury Crescent Coupon

Here is a new coupon for pillsbury crescents.
http://bricks.coupons.com/Start.asp?tqnm=zd1fbgz38454810&bt=wi&o=62937&ci=1&c=GM&p=9ayGs05J
Paired with a deal or sale this should make for some cheap or free rolls.

My kids love these. We use them to make pigs in blankets a lot of the time.

Yoplait Greek Yogurt Cups

I got a coupon in my inbox today from Pssst...by General Mills for this coupon for the New Yoplait Greek Yogurt Cups. It said to email it to as many friends as I wanted so I figure I would just post it here since all the people either I or Taryn would send it to read this anyways.
Here it is...
I'm thinking paired with a sale it should be a pretty good coupon. It's for .45/1 cup.
If your not already a member of Psst...by General Mills you should go here and sign up http://pssst.generalmills.com:80/join.php. They frequently send you high value coupons and samples via email or regular mail.

City Deals

Looking for some cheap date nights or retail therapy. Go check out City Deals. Some of their gift certificates are listed at half off. Plus until tomorrow you can get an extra 15% off when you use the code SPRINGCLEANING at checkout. Some of my favorites are:

Rod Works Home Decor
$25 Introductory offer-limit 1 per household
Your Price: $12.50

Holy Smoke BBQ and Grill
$25 Introductory offer- limit 1 per household
Your Price: $12.50

Pizza Factory
$25 Introductory Offer-limit 1 per household
Your Price: $12.50

After the 15% discount all of these turn out to be about $10. I've ordered from them before and got the certificate within a few days. I would highly recommend them. This isn't a place like restaurants.com where the certificate is only good when you spend a certain amount of money. At least this was true with the Rod Works certificate I got, but I'm assuming it's the same for the restaurant certificates as well.

$1/1 Quaker Coupon *PRINT LIMIT REACHED*

THIS DEAL IS DEAD THE PRINT LIMIT HAS BEEN REACHED
Here is a link for $1/1 printable Quaker Coupon.
This goes really nicely with the sale they are having at Smiths...
(On the side Click on Food and then it will bring it up. This is the CVS website but this is a manufacturers coupon not a CVS coupon. CVS coupons say CVS in red on them. I was only able to print one-so use as many printers as you can. If you were able to get 5 of these paired with the automatic $5 off of 5 sale at Smiths this would equal FREE Oatmeal.)

Harmons Deals

Here are a few of the deals I took advantage of at Harmons this week....
Flipz Pretzels $1.00 each used .50/1 from Sunday papers = .50 each
(my kids LOVE these)
Green Giant Vegetables with Sauce $1.00 each used $1/3 from the mail
(broccoli and cheese so good on baked potatoes)

Other Good Deals
Gold and Soft Margarine $1.00 each use $1.50/2 or .50/1 from Sunday papers = .25 to .50
Quaker Cereal and Granola Bars $1.00 each with in ad coupon
Meadow Gold or Viva Sour Cream $1.00each

For the complete Harmons list go here....

FYI
I recently tried to use a coupon for a FREE item at Harmon's and they wouldn't let me. They told me that there coupon policy says they can not accept coupons for FREE items. ?????Okay
Also they are kind of funny about taking printed coupons they usually take the bricks ones with no problem but sometimes they even question my SmartSource ones. They will usually end up taking them but I will have to argue with the first and I don't think they would take a pdf type coupon at all.
So consider these little bits of info when you go to Harmons, at times it might be easier to ad match at Wal-Mart.

How to Have a Successful Yard Sale

Twice a year I have a huge Yard Sale with my grandma, parents, sister, and aunt and uncle.
This weekend we had another one and once again it was a huge success. We made close to $400 between us, and here is the real kicker we had very few high priced items. A lawn mower for $40 and a love seat and set of speakers for $15 each were the highest priced items we sold. We had a few other items that sold for $5 or $10 dollars but the majority of our stuff was sold for $3 or under and a lot of it was .50. So that means we sold a whole bunch of stuff.

Here are some tips to having a successful yard sale.
ADVERTISE
-Do this online; in the paper; by hanging up signs.
(this time we didn't put an ad in the paper because we noticed there were already a lot of yard sales listed in our area in the paper so people would already be out where we were at so we simply put up our signs and they followed them in)

ORGANIZE
-Organize all of your merchandise. Sort by categories (example-books, boys clothes, kids clothes, toys, kitchen merchandise, household decor, women's and men's clothes, etc)

PRICE
-Make sure you price everything. People like to see prices. In fact if I go to a yard sale where stuff isn't priced I usually won't buy anything. Price each item individually or make a sign for a certain table (example-all kids clothes .50 each).

-Also put good prices on items. It is a yard sale and people are looking for a deal. It might not seem like a lot but if you think about it if you have something priced a .50 everytime you sale 2 of those items you just made $1. I always mark my kids clothes at .50 each, with the exception of a few of my daughters dresses and my kids nicer winter coats, and guess what the whole table usually empties out fairly fast!

-The last hour of your sale mark stuff down half off of the original price.
BAKESALE

-This one is for the kids. We always make them something to sale during our yard sale. You would be amazed at how much money they make. It is also a good learning opportunity for them and they have fun doing it. Yesterday the kids sold muffins, cupcakes, and cookies for .50 each. They made $36 dollars. WOW! This was not included in our total yard sale profits.

First Follower

Sweet! We have our first follower. Brenda Neuberger come on down you are the first follower on What's the Deal! What do you think Tia, do you think she should get a prize?

Extra Bonus to $.80 Peanut Butter

Remember that .80 peanut butter I told you about here. Well there's a little extra bonus. If you buy 10 participating items (Skippy Peanut Butter is one of them) you get your choice of 15 free mp3 downloads, 1 movie ticket, or 15 ring tones. Tia mentioned that the St. George store said they wouldn't take the coupons because they are in a case. Some stores are picky, I did it just fine in Sunset today. Also the shelf price is the same as the case price, so you could just buy them that way, and they shouldn't have a problem accepting the coupons.

Staples Rewards

One of my new favorite places to shop is Staples, so I am going to give you the run down.

First you must know how staples operates.
-They give you staples rewards on certain item purchases and then my personal favorite ink rewards for turning in your old ink cartridges. You get $3 per cartridge up to 10 per month. (check out my post here on how you can actually make money by doing this.) http://whatisthedealthisweek.blogspot.com/2010/04/buying-ink-on-ebay.html
To do this you must have a staples rewards card so if you don't sign up for one for free the next time your in the store.
-Also they give out lots of rebates alot of times the items will actually be free after the rebates. Their rebates are super easy all you do is go online and type in the numbers off your receipts and within 4-8 weeks you have your rebate usually in the form of credit card gift card or rebate check. You usually have to pay something out of pocket to get the item, like most rebates, unless you do what I do and use your staples rewards check to buy the item then it ends up being free plus you end up getting the rebate.

Here is an example of my last transaction at Staples
-1 ream 500 count paper 4.69
-3 pack sharpies 3.99
paid with my $9.00 staples ink rewards check oop=FREE plus I will be getting a $4.69 rebate check in the mail for the paper. Now that's smart shopping!

The ink rewards checks come once a month at the end of the month; the regular rewards come every three months.

Buying Ink on Ebay

How much do you pay for your printer ink?

I have a canon pixma ip1500 and I used to pay around $10 for a black cartridge and around $15 for a color cartridge, but not anymore.

Now I pay $2 or less per cartridge and usually get Free Shipping on top of that.
How???
Simple Ebay.

All you have to do is go to ebay and type in the name of your cartridge for example bci-24 black.

Granted these aren't the genuine canon cartridge they are usually a no-name brand that is compatible, but I have been doing this for two years now and have never had a problem and have saved soooo much money.

When buying on ebay I would mainly watch that the seller has top ratings and has done alot of business. Then look for the best deal-try to find free shipping if possible.

My last purchase of ink a few weeks ago was $6.95 for 5 black ink cartridges. That's less that $2 a cartridge! Plus then I can turn them in at Staples and actually make money in the process. (Check out this link for more on that)http://whatisthedealthisweek.blogspot.com/2010/04/staples-rewards.html

$.80 Skippy Peanut Butter at Smith's

Smith's caselot sale is going on and the Skippy peanut butter is 1.30 in a case of 12. There's a .60/1 coupon that we didn't get in Utah papers, but you can go to collectablecoupons.com and buy it. Each coupon cost .08. Shipping was .94 for up to 50 coupons. So the final price/coupon was about .11. So the final cost of the peanut butter will be about $.80. Not the best deal I've gotten on peanut butter, but when you go through peanut butter like we do you take what you can get.
I've ordered from Collectable Coupons before, and they are really fast to ship. Keep in mind that your order subtotal has to be more than $2.75.

Another Nabisco Coupon

Here is another link for another Nabisco coupon from facebook.
$1/2 Nabisco cookies
Pair this with a sale and it should be a pretty good deal.

Cheap or Free Air Freshners at Target

The airwick air freshners are on roll-back at Target for $6.00. Both the compact and the ultra size.
There were several coupons in the Sunday Papers for these $4/1 compact size and $5/a for the ultra.
Pair these with this coupon from Target for $2/1 any one.
Equals Free or $1-$2 dollars a piece.
(Note you can only print 2 Target coupons per computer so if you want to stock up you will have to use more than one computer or pay a little bit for a few of them.)

FYI I did not buy these all for myself my husband likes to use these in his office at work.

The Newest Member of Our Swagbucks Hunting Team

Before I tell my story a little background on Swagbucks for those who are unfamiliar.
This is the definition of Swag Bucks according to Wikipedia the ultimate source of truth, because anyone can write anything about any subject, and you know you can trust it.

Swag Bucks is a search engine launched in 2007 under the name SearchWinMerch. Its results are provided by Google and Ask. This website allows users to earn a virtual currency called Swag Bucks. The most common and basic way to earn is by using the website's search engine. You may also complete special offers and refer friends. Every so often they will post a code that can be redeemed for a certain amount of Swag Bucks. Users can redeem Swag Bucks for a variety of prizes from the Swag Store. These electronics, gift cards, apparel and other various products are real.

I introduced Jeremy to Swagbucks several months ago. He has been a swagbuck hunting fiend ever since, because you see you can buy Amazon gift cards with your Swagbucks. Which if you're Jeremy you then exchange for a crazy cool mirascope. Anyway he always types in random searches just to try to get Swagbucks. These were some of his attempts tonight:
friday
yes
i do
give me money
what
matrix
none of which were successful. But you know what was successful, 'v', typed in by the newest member of our Swagbuck hunting team-Laney. Keep it up Laney-only 10,439 more to go and we'll be able to get you that Barbie Dream House.

Seriously Swagbucks are awesome. You're not going to get rich, but I've gotten $25 worth of Amazon gift cards since I started back in October, and I haven't really been serious about using the search engine since probably Christmas, but I'm back at it again, because Jeremy and I are saving up for a big purchase off Amazon. If you're interested I would love it if you signed up under me, because then I earn points when you earn them. Just click on the Swagbucks icon on the right.

Birthday Club Goodies

I thought I would post about a few great birthday clubs I think everyone should sign up for. I was reminded because it is my husbands birthday next week and so his birthday emails with coupons have started to roll in. Here is the run down.
(If you sign up for the eclub then on your birthday they email you a coupon for a free gourmet burger which comes with fries of course. Yummy I have signed up my whole family including my kids so of course on birthdays we usually go out to eat at Red Robin.)
(If you sign up for the birthday club then on your birthday you get an email with a coupon for a free mix in creation. Once again sign the whole family up that way you get free ice cream on everyones birthday. We love their ice-cream although it is a little expensive so we love getting our birthday coupons.)
